Foster Mann

Foster Mann has been traveling to Kenya since she was six years old, an experience that sparked a lifelong connection to East Africa. That bond deepened when she returned on her own at 21, spending several months immersed in the rhythms of life in the bush.

She has spent extensive time at Lewa Wilderness, often hosting our partner One Yoga Global yoga retreats, and feels deeply at home there, having known many of the people who work at the lodge for over 20 years. Foster works in social media and marketing and manages The Portal’s newsletters, helping tell the stories behind these journeys.

Kenya has a way of reconnecting me to something deeply human. It is not just the wildlife, but the light, the sounds, the people, and the feeling of being fully present. Sharing this place with others is something I hold with great care and gratitude.

  • Hippos produce their own natural sunscreen! Their skin secretes a reddish-orange oily substance often called “blood sweat” - though it’s neither blood nor sweat. This secretion acts as a natural sunscreen and antibacterial layer, protecting their sensitive skin from the harsh African sun and infections while they spend hours in and out of the water. Even cooler: This secretion contains pigments that absorb UV light, helping prevent sunburn. Nature’s own SPF!

  • "Dear Christine & Foster, thank you for one of the most amazing experiences of my life! This was my Fifth trip to Africa, but by far, the best! The concierge service, the cooks, the guides, the staff all were a part of getting to know the culture with a full immersion experience, and we saw sights that will forever be engraved on my brain. Thank you both for the effort put into making this week so memorable."w List Item
